Fun Finds! How to make a measuring table

Measuring table idea from MarthaStewart.com

Super excited & had to share this clever  but simple idea from today's Martha Stewart crafts email. I had never heard of self-adhesive backed measuring tape before now. (Click the caption for project details).

I just ordered some from Amazon & will add it to the baby changing table that I'm finally turning into a rolling jewelry/sewing station - squee!

Dragon's for Nathan - will you help?

Dragon Music - ACEO

Nathan loves dragons. Nathan also has cancer.

You can read this 7 year old's  story at http://www.nathanlev.com.  (He also has an etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/NathanLev - Please stop by & give it a "fave" if you are so inclined.)

Artist (& generous soul) Kimberly Wlassak put a call out on facebook last week for small dragon art for Nathan. She is seeking art small enough for him to enjoy from bed, preferably ACEOs (2.5" x 3.5"). She will be collecting the artworks over the next few weeks.

Red Fire Breathing Dragon & Castle by the little dude

Little Dude & I made some pieces for Nathan today. Will you join us and send some cheer to this brave boy?

If you want to make a dragon for Nathan or have any questions about this project, please contact Kimberly at gerushiasworld@aol.com.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Count your blessings & have a wonderful week.

Oops, I forgot to thank the sources that went into the digital ACEO on the top. Thank yous to:

Kimmie at DigitalWhisper.ning.com for use of logo
AshenSorrow on DevaintArt for Premade Background 1158
Rivendell-Photosock on DeviantArt for Sleeping Dragon
The model is nicked from Anthropologie catalog - shhhh... I won't tell if you don't. And I'll have to get back to you on the music source- it has  been on my computer for ages & I've misplaced the owner.

See You At The Fair

If you find yourself in Tampa this weekend be sure head downtown for the Gasparilla Arts Festival - always a good time to had.

This article in the Trib. says that the show is a bit smaller this year (233 artists, down from 300) since they are holding it only in the riverfront park. But 1000 artists applied, so hopefully the quality will be good.

Speaking of cutbacks, my art budget fits that bill. But I am happy to see that many of my faves, including those I bought from last year, are returning.

closeup of The Who by Kreg Yingst, now on my walls
I can't wait to see what Kreg Yingst (booth 141) is showing this year. I love his framing almost as much as his art!

Galenski House by Laurie Coppedge
Also looking forward to seeing what is new in the world of of Laurie Coppedge (booth 227). If you'd like to see her other prints I brought home last year, click here. ( And if you missed this blog's 2010 week-of-artfair-posts and are curious, click here & here for a few more of my fave finds)

Well, I need to get a few things done before I can play today. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend !

What is on your workdesk Wednesday? #91

unfinished projects galore

I popped over to  dragon-dragonsweb.blogspot.com to see what wonderful things Frankie is up to & spotted the W.O.Y.W.D.W. meme - cute idea I though. Soooo - here is a corner of my messy set up. I am ashamed to admit that these projects have been sitting here 1/2 done forever. This is a flip down table that is attached to the door of my armoire style desk. The main desk looks like a hurricane blew through. If I get the camera going maybe I'll shoot it next week (think I can clean it by then? haha).

If you have some time, pop over & visit Frankie - she just blogged about a workshop with Tim Holtz that looks fun.

Like the idea of Workdesk Wednesday? Go to Stamping-ground.blogspot.com for links to lots-o-desks & to add your own.

box lid in progress
This box lid is one of the items collecting dust on my desk. Sorry about the poor quality web-cam photo. I was working on this box months ago when I made a stupid mistake & have yet to decide if it is worth salvaging or time to pitch & start again.

Italian Bicycle Polaroid Transfer Tile- $10
My desk is also covered in a bunch of these Polaroid transfer tiles that I recently took down from a local gallery. I am listing them in my ArtSnark Etsy shop.

These marble tiles are 4" sq & have hanging hardware on back. This bike was resting outside of  my MIL's childhood home near Venice, Italy. (I have so many photos from that trip & really need to do something with them...) The image was made into an emulsion transfer that I put on marble tile & then colored with markers, watercolors and colored pencils.

So, that is what is on my messy desk today? What are you up to?

Sunday Sketch - Margot

Margot -Charcoal & Conte on 18" x 24" newsprint

I spotted a Sunday Sketch post over on Diana Evans' blog this morning & thought that sounded like fun. Also tossed the 2 words into Google & found all kinds of drawings posted.  Check it out if you have the time - or, even better, play along!

I'm supposed to be getting out the backhoe to clean Little Dude's room today, but this was far more entertaining. Sorry the picture is a bit crap - still having some camera woes around here. So I had to hold the paper in front of the webcam to catch a shot.

I love sketching big & loose - haven't done that in a while. And the paper is a fantastic size for blocking most of the mess in my room - haha
