Quality Encapsulations Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement review #Omega3

Disclaimer:  I received a free bottle of Quality Encapsulations Omega 3 Triple Strength Fish Oil Supplement  in  exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

Back in April I mentioned that I have some basic health issues (osteoarthritis, headaches, allergies, etc) which sometimes slow me down. In addition to assorted docs and meds, I've been looking into supplements, herbs and other alternatives to "traditional" western medicine. Some seem to help and I'll be sharing notes occasionally on where these experiments are leading me. I'd also like to add that I am not in any way a medical professional, so everything mentioned in these health-themed posts is based only on my experiences and opinions.

I have had a lot of luck with tweaking my diet to lessen inflammation and improve overall health. However am not a fan of seafood and seem to be missing out on the highly touted Omega 3 fatty acids. I keep hearing good things from friends and family about the benefits of fish oils - some folks say it helps with their mood swings, high blood pressure, weight loss, and even arthritis. When the opportunity arose to try out a sample of Quality Encapsulations Omega 3 fish oil supplements, I figured I'd give it a go.

The company states that their "Triple Strength Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules (are) packed with the kind of omega-3 fatty acids your body needs. Rich in brain and heart healthy EPA and DHA, this high grade Chilean Fish Oil is an easy to take soft gel tablet. Each serving contains an industry leading 1,500 total mg of omega-3 fatty acids with 800 mg of EPA and 600 mg of DHA. You now have a powerful way get the most from omega-3 rich fish oil, which dramatically improves health in a variety of ways including improving immunity, cardiovascular health, circulation and brain function and lowering bad cholesterol levels."

Sounds pretty good. Unfortunately, I discovered right away that this wasn't the supplement for me. I am not a fan of large pills and while the capsule is smooth and rounded, it is quite large. I've been told by folks who take similar capsules that this size is standard. One big plus with Quality Encapsulation's product is that there is very little fishy smell or taste; when taken with food I did not get the famous "fish burps" these types of pills are sometimes known for. When I told this to a friend, he said he is going to think about changing brands as his current one sometimes gives him a squiggly tummy and fishy breath.

I only lasted a couple of weeks on these when a stomach bug had me dropping all extras from my diet. Once back on track, I really had no interest in adding two capsules a day back into my routine. To be fair, I don't think this was long enough to see if they had any positive effect. I have also since found that certain fish oils are helpful for rheumatiod arthritis, not osteo, which is what I have. For more info on fish oil for arthritis check out arthritis.org.

So, this experiment was inconclusive. If you are looking for an Omega 3 supplement to try, Quality Encapsulation states that its "triple strength formulation": is non GMO, PCB tested for safety, and made in the USA. For more info visit their website  or Amazon listing
