In case you haven't heard, Mixed Media Monday is changing to a Monthly format. The new prompt  is "shrines." Now this challenge is going monthly, I may actually finish a project or 2 - yay! To sound like a broken record, I'm still chasing my own tail it seems. One of these Saturdays this blog 's schedule will kick back in with Studio Tours - just haven't had the time despite my best intentions.

I've been trying some new stuff out this month.... more about that later though. I have to go supervise the little dude's "build something that floats" project & then we are supposed to magnetize some spoons. Fun times! Catch you tomorrow

Waking The Witch- 18" x 20" pencil,watercolor & pitt pens

I was listening to Kate Bush today ( "...there's something....moving under...." ) when this fun prompt came in from Illustration Friday. The combo sent me back many years to a series of dreams featuring a creature I labeled The Sea Witch. I thought about making a cool digital collage, but since I haven't sketched in ages I decided to pull out some long neglected watercolor paper.

 

Haven't decided if it is worth listing  in my ArtSnark etsy shop. What do you think? The photo is a bit crap - doesn't show the colors in the eyes & lips at all. And I always have a hard time shooting the bumpy papers.... Of course it just sits around here collecting dust otherwise.

And another week goes flying by! Rushing through the random today. My son just told me that he volunteered to bring homemade cookies to his 1st grade class tomorrow...I suppose I could be annoyed but I always love an excuse to make cookies.

I don't know.... but they sound tasty. Won't be making them for the kiddies though - I like my kid's teacher too much to do that to her.

Ready for Halloween? It has always been my absolutely favorite holiday! Of course back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, we had to make our own spooky decorations. I have the best memories of going to the fabric store with my mom each September & looking through all of the pattern books to find the perfect costume.  If you're into crafting for Halloween  Martha is (once again) the go to gal. You can also find some fun projects over at Instructables. What are your favorite Halloween project sites?

Oh & here is a fun faux-bleach stamp technique using embossing ink & powder & alcohol inks. Will have to try sometime.

Multitasking Monday - Ill. Friday, Mixed Media & Music

So, what do you get if you mix Musical Monday, Mixed Media Monday & Illustration Friday into one post?  Something like this....

This piece I'm submitting for Illustration Friday's latest prompt, Old Fashioned, as well as the new Mixed Media Monday challenge, Art.

still naive, Polaroid transfer on marble

I took a Polaroid of my original charcoal, color pencil & conte' drawing. Trimmed it down & then made an emulsion transfer (more about the process in this post) which was adhered to a 4" sq marble tile. Once that dried, enhanced with a touch of watercolor pencil & white paint. Finally protected with a layer of UV-resistant spray.
