Weekend Photos, Musical Monday & other ramblings

Is it Musical Monday already?Where did the weekend go?

Watched Repo Men last night. It was a bit meh but had this great tune from Unkle on the soundtrack. I haven't listened to them in ages so popped over to their site. Some great stuff on the Standalone player - worth opening a tab & running in the background. (That's what I'm doing right now)

Denise over at RunDMT resurrected Music Monday's last week. If you get a chance pop over later, add your own tunes & check out what others are playing today. I love MM! It can be a great way to find new faves or enjoy some classics.

So what did you do this weekend? It was party time around here.  We started Friday night with the Museq art opening at the Tampa Artist Emporium. Fun show! Lots of color plus a variety of styles and mediums. Little Dude played official photographer. (Oops - I just realized we forgot to shoot my 2 pieces.Well, you can see them on the previous post if you are curious.)

R.J. Runas  ( & assistant) work on a clay dog sculpture.

Check out this Leonardo bust by the same artist. Fantastic texture!

Some great guitar kept the party moving. Visit TimMullally.com for a listen.

A grand time was had by all! We made some new friends and ran into many old ones. The rest of the weekend was spent at various birthday celebrations & relaxing.

"I have been wanting to" is the theme for the new MixedMediaMonday. I love this prompt! I've been taking too long to start a few projects that are outside my comfort zone. I'm going to see about working on this later today. Click the banner to add your newest creation or see how others are pushing their personal envelopes.

I'll let you in on a not-so-secret. I am a big chicken. I can't tell you how many times I hear of an opportunity & fail to follow through until it is too late.  So, taking the MMM challenge to heart. I'm getting my paperwork & photos together for assorted artsy opportunities. Will anything come of it? Probably not....but what the heck.....nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

On that note, I best get myself moving today. Wishing you all a creative and fun filled week!

By the way, I'm hosting 2 random drawings right now. Click links for more info:

Art filled weekend in Tampa & Burlington

First a sneak peek of the Tampa Artists Emporium Museq show. One of the owners, Melissa Wilson, sent this photo last night after she finished hanging the show.

The 2 white matted pieces to the right of the door are mine - Squee! Here are the close-ups.

This show's theme is "Let Music Be Your Muse". The opening party runs 6-10 tonight. Lots of art & artists, live music, refreshments & a photographer shooting $10 portraits too. If you are in Tampa, stop by 3415 Bay to Bay Blvd - should be a great time!

Not in Florida? How about Vermont?

I got an email from SteamSmith (a.k.a. Mark Schwabe) about the Burlington South End Art Hop  "the biggest art event in the state of Vermont". It started today runs through Sunday & afternoon. Last year it had 30,000 visitors.

SteamSmith  has moved to a new studio at The Space Gallery which is located in the Soda Plant at 266 Pine Street (in Burlington's South End).  If you're lucky enough to be in Burlington this weekend, check out Mark's new digs and enjoy his wonderful Steampunk creations..... oh, and would you tell him I say hi?

Last November Mark showed us around his old studio. (Click here if you missed it). Perhaps we can persuade him to give us a tour of the new space once he gets settled in......

I also found out that mixed media artist Lorraine Reynolds will be showing her work during the hop.  Someone over on facebook mentioned that she has a piece in the Juried Show.  If I can get more details, I'll add them here later. By the way, Lorraine's ACEO Eve was one of the first pieces I bought on Etsy back in 2008.

I'm sorry I can't make it to Burlington. Sounds like a great weekend!

What's going on in your part of the world this weekend? Whatever it is, I hope you have a fabulous time.

Change Is In The Air....

(& so is Tropical Storm Bonnie)

Just walked back from one of my favorite local shops, Bohemian Vintage in Tampa. Sad to say that today is the last day the storefront will be open.

However Mina will continue sell her fabulous finds online at BohemianVintage1.etsy.com. You can also read about her latest treasures & other fun decor posts on her blog minasdecorandfashion.blogspot.com

I will admit I do a lot of my shopping online & do not "shop local" as often as I should. But it has been a true pleasure having such a lovely (& lively) store literally right around the corner.  And Mina is such a sweetie!

She greets everyone with a smile but is content to let her customers find their way around. And always makes time for a chat if you have a few minutes to talk treasures. So I popped by this afternoon to take a few photos before she closed for the day.

Many of the free-use antique photos I post to this blog come from Bohemian Vintage. Mina has a great eye & I am so glad she will continue stocking her Etsy Shop with her latest discoveries. Ciao, Mina. Wishing you the best of luck with all of your new adventures!!

On other local fronts today, the Tampa Artists Emporium turns 3! Congrats, Guys!!

The new owners, Melissa & Anthony, are hosting a birthday bash from 6 - 10 tonight at the gallery. There is lots of art, a bar and.....cupcakes! mmm...mmm... you can't go wrong with cupcakes. They will also be holding a raffle featuring local art & giving away goody bags too.

I decided to donate a half dozen mixed media tiles. I  altered some old polaroid transfer tiles (rejects I never got around to tossing) & had some fun with rubber stamps, markers & inks. Here's one of them:

In fact I need to get over there - didn't realize how late it was! So, if you are in South Tampa tonight pop on over to 3415 Bay To Bay Blvd. You can find more event info on their website &  Facebook page . And if you're not in town - have fun anyway!!

What'cha doing Friday night?

I'll be at the Tampa Artist Emporium - won't you join me?

Last month the new owners, Anthony Peck & Melissa Wilson, sent out a call to artists.

They've had quite a response! I was in the neighborhood today & popped by for a sneak peak.

I took some shots of Anthony & Shelby hanging the show but I'll be d@*&ed if I can figure out how to get them from my phone to the computer. Yes, yes I hear you snickering...you young whippersnappers... Know what is really cool? Several pieces have sold & the show isn't even up yet.

Tomorrow I'll pop back over there with the "real" camera and see what treasures I can find for you. Until then, enjoy these pics from their facebook fan page.

Sorry, the artists names aren't listed on their page. If I find out in the future, I'll come back & add them. Want to see more photos? Click through & visit the fanpage.

By the way I have these 2 pieces in the show.

Plus tomorrow we've got a new Artist Feature & Giveaway Prize. Be sure to check it out - this artist has been one of my Etsy faves from back when I 1st joined in 2008.

Well, I'll see you around. Hopefully Friday night at the Artist Appreciation Mixer - if you're in the neighborhood!

Call To Artists - Tampa Artist Emporium

I'm a big fan of buying local. As an art-o-holic & artist this email from Tampa Artist Emporium made me so happy my toes are wiggling!

Call To Artists

The Tampa Artist Emporium is now under new owner ship and their mission is “For Artists, By Artists!!”

April is Artist Appreciation Month at the Tampa Artist Emporium and they would like to invite all artists to bring in 2 pieces of art for the entire month with a reception on April 9th from 6-10pm.

1. This event is open to all local artists!

2. Each artist is allowed two pieces that represents them as an artist and there is also no up front fee.

3. Artists must e-mail their submissions to info@TampaArtistEmporium.com for approval.

4. Size is subject to approval.

5. Artwork will be dropped off on April 2nd.

6. Artwork will be picked up on April 30th.

7. If artwork is sold 30% will be taken and another piece can be brought by the same artist to replace it.

8. Commission checks will be ready at the beginning of May for the April sales.

Want to check out this cool space? Their website is TampaArtistEmporium.com . You can also click here for their facebook fan page.

I've enjoyed visiting Tampa Artist Emporium off & on for years. Some of my favorite artists have shown there. I'm a fan of photographer Richard Stewart & have a large print of his piece Workboat on my wall. Some trivia: I picked up this wonderful photo several years ago from a local art show we were both in. (I bought it before it was hung & it ended up taking first prize.) Click on the photo to visit Richard's website GalleryArtPhotos.com

Red Riding Hood by Chris Schumacher

This is a scan of Chris Schumacher's Red Riding Hood purchased from T.A.E. a few years ago. (Any flaws are due to my old scanner.) Chris has since moved out of state & I'm not sure where he sells now. Here's a link to his old blog, fauxtography.blogspot.com (warning: there is some nude photography).

I know I've mentioned Joe Bagley here before. Joe is one of my absolute favorite papercutting artists. His work is classic yet contemporary. I first stumbled into his art back around the time I started this blog. He has since moved to New England & his business has taken off. You can see more of Joe's amazing art at his website, papercutsbyjoe.com & etsy shop, papercutsbyjoe.etsy.com.

Great stuff, huh? If you find yourself in Tampa be sure to check out Tampa Artists Emporium on Bay To Bay Blvd. If you are a local artist make sure you answer their new Art Call! And if you are doing either, drop me a line. I'll be happy to post your art & thoughts.
