Musical Monday - Night Music

Night Music (work in progress)
Loving this week's Musical Monday prompt from Xmas Dolly! The theme is a "song about an animal or their breed." With Halloween just around the corner it seemed like a good excuse for one of my faves:

...and that got me playing with some digital art. It still needs some more shading & blending. But I've got to get to work, so sharing what I have so far.

Special thanks to these talented & generous stock providers:

Want to play along this Musical Monday? Post your animal tune & link up over at Xmas Dolly's place. While you are there be sure to click around and listen to what everyone else is sharing today.

Hey, have you entered my new random drawing yet? Keeping with the Halloween theme, 1 lucky winner will take home a cool pen& ink skull print from StevieScratchpad on Etsy. To enter just leave a comment on this blog before 1 am (EST) on Thursday 10/20. To check out this fun prize and an interview with the artist, click here.

Well, I'm outta here - wishing you a creative week!

Musical Monday - Blast from the past

Xmas Dolly is asking for tunes from your birth-year for the new Music Monday. I stumbled over this Top 100 songs for'69 & was surprised how many of my all time faves came out when I did.

A really sweet year, if I do say so. Not only did I make my premier (ehem), but you had Woodstock, gas was 35 cents/gallon, Monty Python's Flying Circus & Sesame Street debuted... and man walked on the moon! Good times.

So what was playing when you decided to show up on earth?

Photobucket

Pop over to Xmas Dolly & share your birth-year tunes today.

Musical Monday - Dayton, Ohio 1903

1900s postcard from OldTymeNotions.etsy.com

My inner square is showing today. I've been revisiting some early Randy Newman over a cuppa while scrubbing new copper etchings.

While I will admit to getting flashes of Buzz & Woody in old lady hats, I'm really enjoying this little ditty.

Ladies drink wine for picnic lunch from ChristmasAngel.etsy.com

What are you up to this week? I'm still playing catch up. Some kinda flu slowed me down for the last couple of weeks, but I'm finally back among the living. Desperately trying to tidy up the workspace... although my head is in the clouds with all of the new artsy ideas banging around.

I think I'm sticking with the oldies this week. I've got a really cozy time-warp vibe going on. I'm off to crank up the Victrola & whip up a new batch of lemonade. Wishing you a fantastic week!

Musical Monday - Tom Waits

nightcap

I'm just playing around with some photos before I get my Monday moves on.

Photobucket

Xmas Dolly has posted her new MM theme - today it is all about the 1970s. I've been enjoying Tom Waits with a side of coffee & photoshop today, so here's my 70s contribution.

Thanks to disco & really nasty fashion, the 70s have a bad rap. It is kind of amazing how much good music actually came out of such a glittery era. What Me Decade tunes are you digging today? Pop on over to Dolly's place & add a link. Looking for a blast from the past? Jump into her blog hop  time machine.

Whatever you're listening to today, hope you have a great start to a stellar week!

Almost forgot - there are a few days left to enter LilyBellesJewels random drawing for 3 colorful pendants with chain. Leave a comment on my blog before 1 a.m. (EST) 9/8 to enter. For details & prize photos, plus a visit with Lily & Barbara click here

Ok Monday- C'mon, C'mon, I dare ya!

Ok, maybe I need more coffee but I (almost) love this drummer as much as Neil Peart.

Definately in my Top 20 of Wake-your-tired-@$$-up Monday Music. I never post it: A) because it got overplayed with  Rescue Me (great show) & B) you can't embed a decent version, only some okay live ones. For a balanced sound & better take on this song, click this link to catch the official video.

After a late nite chattering over at the Time Travellers Team sale on etsy, 2 giant espressos & loud music are the only things waking up these insomniac's bones.

Question for you - remember how much you hated getting up for school? Am I the only Mom that somewhat resents having to do it again (not only that- but to do it earlier so that fresh pancakes are on the table when I drag an unnamed sleepy bum out of bed?) - ok,ok feeling petty. Please forgive me - it happens on a Monday.

Sorry i'm so grumpy/sleepy. I want to make sure to thank Xmas Dolly for prodding me into the Spotlight Dance today (without poking I do tend to be a wallflower). And thank my wonderful partner this week, DeniseisRunDMT, for not wincing when I accidentally step on her toes.

Spotlight Dancers

I invite you to play along - post what you are jump starting your week with & then add a link over at Dolly's place.

Photobucket

On a side topic, it has been crazy busy lately - I'll share details soon. Until then, enjoy this silly cat that my son is completely enamored with

Not a feline fan? Pop back later this week & I'll have something for you.

Until then, have you enter the new random drawing for 3 (yes, three) pendants from Etsy seller LillyBellesJewels ? No, well clickty-click here for sample photos & giveaway details.

You Don't Learn That In School - Music Monday

Photobucket

Musical Monday + the school bell =  oodles of fun

Lots of  folks are sharing academic-themed tunes today. Here are a  few of my faves.

It's actually pretty amazing just how many school-esque songs there are. Check out this list on wikipedia - be warned, it may suck you into a time warp.....

Looking for some more Monday Music? Pop on over to Xmas Dolly & Stacy Uncorked for videos & linkys. Be sure to play along & add your own if you have the time.

Musical Monday - studio groove

Monday again already?

Photobucket

Monoral is one of my shortcuts-into-the-zone-bands. I am trying to pull together a couple of artsy projects that I have (as usual) left on the back burner just a little too long, so the jumpstart helps.

Not sure why these guys click my cogs into place - but when I need to make a quick shift from Mommy or work mode to studio mode this band usually does the trick. As do these talented folks I've posted here before... but they are too fantastic to not share again :D

(heads up, there is some nudity in this video)
anything Coltrane
or Mozart's Requiem

There are others, depending on what I'm trying to channel for the piece o' art. But these are my current foundation musicians.
So what is getting you into your groove today? If you want to share, pop on over to Xmas Dolly and add your link.

Lynn's girl ACEO

Before I go, here is a link to the new Thursday Giveaway. On 7/28 I'll toss all of the folks who comment on this blog over 14 days into random.org. The name that floats to the top wins their choice of ACEO (a mini 2.5" x 3.5" piece of art) from my etsy shop. So if you want to enter the random drawing just leave a comment. (And if you click the grey link above you'll see a few more of the new ACEO prints I have coming in this week)

Musical Monday - random shuffle

Hellooo Monday

Photobucket

I'm on the run today, so I've let the random shuffle pick a few tunes to share. Lucky for us only good stuff rose to the top. It was risky, we could've ended up with The Wiggles Captain Feathersword or something. (It really is time to clean up the itunes now that Little Dude is past the NickJr. phase)

I was really happy to see this great Boxer Rebellion tune pop up - Back when their album Union came out I was listening to it constantly:

Next we've got TMBG's Fibber Island .... mmm... houses made of pie... While looking for a video I found this Harry Potter version made by awesomerthankanuph. Warning: you may find yourself humming this little ditty later - it has major earworm potential

While I like this last tune, Money & Run (featuring Nick Cave) from Unkle, I don't care for the video. For anyone with kids in the room, it is not family friendly

So what are you playing today? Want to share? Post & add a link over at XmasDolly's blog . While you're there, have a listen to what other folks have posted. Great way to start the week!

----------
By the way, I'm hosting a last minute random drawing for Uprinting.com on Thursday. If you would like a chance to win 250 custom printed color flyers, just leave a comment on my blog before 1 am (EST) on 6/24 to enter. For prize & contest details, click here. (Really low # of entries so far, so good odds)

Musical Monday - Happy Birthday, Harvey

Actually, I think the average voice is like 70 percent tone and 30 percent noise. My voice is 95 percent noise. -Harvey Fierstein

Photobucket

I was looking around for some Musical Monday inspiration and noticed that it is Harvey Fierstein's birthday today. Here's one of my favorite H.F. tunes:

What are you listening today? Want to show off your fabulous taste? Post to your blog and then head on over to XmasDolly and RunDMT to share your rockin' tunes. While you are there, click some linkies & have a listen to what other Monday music lovers have posted.

Before you go, can I interest you in some crafty Paris swag? In 10 days I'll draw one lucky winner from everyone who leaves a comment on my blog before 1 a.m. (EST) on 6/16. Free shipping world wide to winner. For prize details, click here.

Musical Monday - Color

Work In Progress from Kathy Maximo Designs
Oh boy - is it Musical Monday again?
Where did that weekend go?

Lucky me, it looks like I am "in the spotlight" with Dave from The Moody Mix  over at the XmasDolly blog today!  So I just had to put my dancin' shoes on & play along today.

Photobucket

The themes today are weather or color. I just had to go with color .... but there are far too many tinted tunes to choose from! I finally settled on Jimi Hendrix's Red House

& Chet Baker/Elvis Costello's Almost Blue almost made the cut today. Here is the version from Bruce Weber's excellent Chet Baker film Let's Get Lost

Many thanks to Kathy Maximo for letting me post her latest work in progress. As soon as I needed a house, she was my go-to gal. You can see more of Kathy's creations on her website http://www.kathymaximodesigns.com & her online shop -Vintagesnapsandscrap.etsy.com.

So, what'cha listenin to today? Pop on over to XmasDolly & share your linky. While you are there be sure to test out some great tunes other folks have posted. You can also find more music over at RUN DMT & Bloggin' With Amanda later today.

Whatever you are into, I hope your day is colorful!

Musical Monday - Frenchie and the Punk

A little toe tapper to get you moving this week from Frenchie & the Punk (formerly the Gypsy Nomads)

The ongoing studio clean out continues. Sheesh.... mixed media.... I never had this much stuff when I only worked in pencil.

Green eyes (cropped)

On the plus side, I'm finding all kinds of things that I need to list on Etsy. First up is this digital alteration. Glossy print measures about 6" x 8" and is already mounted in an acid free 11" x 14" mat. Mat fits a standard off the shelf frame. For more info click on any of the image captions.

Green Eyed Girl with mat from ArtSnark.etsy.com

This digitally altered print is based on a polaroid emulsion transfer

Blue Eyes Polaroid Transfer with mat from Artsnark.etsy.com

 of a life size drawing.

charcoal & lithochrome nude - sold

Talk about recycled art - haha

And now I have to get back to the mess. If you are looking for more musical memes, pop over to RunDMT or Bloggin' with Amanda. Sharing? Be sure to add links over there to your own tunes.

Musical Monday - UNKLE, Nick Cave, Renato Coresone & Eggs?

Fresh hen & quail eggs

Hey there. Once again it is Musical Monday & I never did post my photos of Saturday's Tampa Garden Club Plant Fest... sigh. Thank you for your infinite patience. I think I need to accept that I am getting old. Or drinking too much wine.... either way, I used to have (a) more hours in the day & (b) more energy to use them.

What is the point of this self-indulgent ramble? I took photos of the plants & artists (there were more art booths than I expected). Sadly, this week is just crazy-busy, so I may have to share a few each day instead of the one big post I'd planned on.

Vintage Egg Scale

The fest was smallish with about 35 vendors, but the quality & prices were fantastic! There was even a local egg farmer, King Farm. We bought a dozen & the generous owner threw in several quail eggs (the cute little speckled ones). DH fried himself some of the hen's eggs & declared them "really tasty" - I think I'll have to give them a go tomorrow & make asparagi alla bismark. <----- Definitely my Last Meal go-to dish (although I always cry a bit when I make it as it reminds me of the wonderful time I spent in Italy with my mother in law years ago). I know, I know, TMI - just let me grab a tissue  & sniffle for a sec.

Okay. I have wandered way off topic here tonight. Originally I was going to post the new UNKLE & Nick Cave which is just as good as you might expect...

But now I am in an Italian tourist state of mind. I have shared this video before but in case you missed it way back when, hop into your time machine & enjoy:

If you are looking for more tunes (or want to add your own) be sure to visit RunDMT, Xmas Dolly and Bloggin' with Amanda.

Catch you tomorrow with a few more photos. I hope you are off to a creative week!

*NOTE: More art & plant photos added on 4/6 - Just click here. *

GreenFest photos & Musical Monday

Phelps Farm Orchids
Hey there. How was your weekend? Hope you had a grand time. We had fun at the annual Plant Park GreenFest. Brought home lots of goodies & photos to share. But 1st - since it is Musical Monday here's a little something to get you in the mood:

(or there's always the Feed Me song from Little Shop of Horrors)

D&D Growers (links to email)

By the way, if anything catches your eye, click the purple captions to visit the vendors' websites.

Interior Gardens by Kent

The kind fellow from Gross Orchids may have lifted my Black Thumb curse - he walked me through what I did wrong 10+ years ago that killed off all of my orchids. I may finally be ready to try growing them again.

Gross Orchids

In addition to the wonderful greenery, there were many plant inspired decor items. These cute glass vases hold stem or two & hang in your window. How cool is that?

Tropical Glass Creations by Steve & Kim Schramek

It is hard to see the water in the next picture, but these mosaic fountains feature porcelain teapots & cups. The teapot pours the water into the cup and then it flows to the trough (where it is pumped back up to the pot).

by Glenn David Cryer of TheGardenWall (links to email)

We also founds delicious treats, like local honey. Love this tasting display!

herb infused "Honey with a buzz" from Briar Wood Farm Herbs

I brought home some pear champagne vinegar and a few tins of savory herb blends from V Spicery. Yummy! Little Dude & I spent ages in that booth, as he had to sniff each sample. The folks running it were very patient with us.

Fleurs de Provence

In fact the whole show was very kid friendly. Jeannine Mace from Fleurs de Provence walked LD through her photo album explaining the process of growing, picking & drying lavender.

There was also a children's tent for crafts and transplanting. LD repotted some tomato & pepper seedlings to take home.

I forgot to get a card for this garden-decor vendor. I just loved how relaxed this little mermaid looked. Maybe she is listening to some cool Musical Monday tunes...

(If you are looking for more blogs with music today pop on over to Xmas Dolly, Run DMT and Bloggin with Amanda. Sharing your tunes? Leave me a note - I'd love to enjoy whatever you are listening to today.)

sorry, I missed the name of this one - lovely roses though

Well, thanks for coming along. Today it is raining buckets here (great for the plants), so these pictures seem even sunnier to me. Actually we are very lucky - the weather this weekend (& all spring) has been fantastic.

Are you feeling lucky? Have you entered the new random drawing yet?

On 4/7 one winner will be selected from all who comment to receive an item from the fun online shop Curioddities.etsy.com. For details and an interview with the artist click here. (By the way, if you picked the "Feed Me" song, you definitely want to click through & check out the unique artwork.)
