Potted Potter At The Straz

Are you a Harry Potter fan?
Love to laugh?
Near Tampa this weekend?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to drop everything right now. Seriously. Take a moment and click here to get your tickets for Potted Potter, The Unauthorized Harry Potter Experience. This show truly is a "must see" and it is only in town through Sunday 3/15 at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. Go on... It will only take you a minute. I'll wait for you...

da da da dum da da dum da da da dum da dum

All sorted? Ooh, I hope so. You really don't want to miss this fun retelling of the entire Harry Potter series. Yep, all 7 books. Oodles of characters. Played by 2 actors... in only 70 minutes!

I know this sounds like madness, but it is more like choreographed chaos. The creators, Jeff and Dan take you on a hilarious whirlwind tour of H.P.'s world ... but only one of them seems to know his way around. The other is a bit behind on his reading and keeps confusing the tale with equally famous fantasy stories. Narnia? Hobbits? Wha??

But, hey, there is a disco ball!
And a dragon!
And Quiddich game (of sorts) breaks out.

With a silly set, tons of toys, costumes, jokes, pratfalls and (of course) help from the audience, Potted Potted will have you, your kids and even grandma cracking up. This guy (below) kept reenacting his favorite bits for hours after last night's show.

All this is a good thing! The wanna-be Wizards get me, right? Need to convince your (grumpier) Muggle to come along? Let's see...

Never heard of Harry Potter? (wha???)

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to drop everything right now. Blah. Blah. See 1st paragraph, then scurry back here.

Potted Potter is a family friendly event. Their promo states it is for "ages six to Dumbledore (who is very old indeed)." We spotted audience members from younger than six to almost as old as Dumbledore belly laughing at the same shenanigans. However, Jeff and Dan had to squeeze in a lot of material, so it is a very fast-paced performance. Some of the speedy chatter may fly by the youngest muggle. This is really not a problem though, as by then they are already laughing at the joke just after that one.

You don't need to know a thing about The Boy Who Lived to be entertained by these funny fellows. The show is cleverly written and just plain silly. The actors, who are also the creators, bounce everything off each other (sometimes literally) in a way that is amusing for everyone.

You only like top tier performances? Potted Potter has played to sold out houses around the globe and has received rave reviews from most major papers. Click here for a few. It was also nominated for an Oliver Award (England's version of the Tony Award) in 2012.

Still not convinced? Oh, your a tough one. Best pop over to the Straz website, get yourself a ticket anyway. Sounds like you need a good laugh!

Disclaimer: I was provided with two tickets to attend this show in exchange for a blog review. All opinions are my own...And I can't say enough good things about this crowd-pleasing preformance. My son and I loved it.
