Multitasking Monday - Ill. Friday, Mixed Media & Music

So, what do you get if you mix Musical Monday, Mixed Media Monday & Illustration Friday into one post?  Something like this....

Blogging with Amanda has revived Musical Monday's (yay!). What are you listening to today? Click the button to visit Amanda & link up your tune-of-choice.  I've got Ramona Falls Russia splashing around in my head again.

This piece I'm submitting for Illustration Friday's latest prompt, Old Fashioned, as well as the new Mixed Media Monday challenge, Art.

still naive, Polaroid transfer on marble

I took a Polaroid of my original charcoal, color pencil & conte' drawing. Trimmed it down & then made an emulsion transfer (more about the process in this post) which was adhered to a 4" sq marble tile. Once that dried, enhanced with a touch of watercolor pencil & white paint. Finally protected with a layer of UV-resistant spray.

By the way, your comment enters you into the 10/14 random drawing for artist Myke Amend's "Spooky Steampunk Bag of Awesome". Click here for details & info on Myke's latest project, the multimedia collaborative event, Cirque Acirca.

Merging Musical & Mixed Media Mondays.....

Musical Monday is back - woohoo!

I got an email today from DeniseIsRunDMT - She's resuscitating Musical Mondays. To play along, post what you're listening to today & add a link over on her site. To kick things off Denise is also holding a random drawing for a $15 itunes giftcard.

I've a bunch of music in the queue today - trying to finish a piece for the Tampa Artist Emporium Museq art show that opens on Friday.

100 artists + live music....should be a grand time. If you'll be in Tampa on the 10th, drop me a line & I'll see you there.

Since the piece I'm tinkering with also fits MixedMediaMonday's latest art challenge, Warm It Up, I figured I'd multitask this post.

You may remember this lady from waaaaay back. It is truly scary how many pieces are stacked in my work in progress file. (Sorry the photo's a bit poor -bad lighting, wrinkled paper). Still not thrilled with her but I'm going to walk away for a few hours. Have to frame her tomorrow regardless.... ooh - crud - forgot I need to come up with a title too...

I've added some more watercolors, pencils, pens, iridescent bits & markers. I am totally loving Faber Castell's Pitt Pen's, by the way! Pam Carriker recommended them ages ago and I've been meaning to give 'em a try. Nice rich color & great coverage. My old standby is often Sakura Micron pens, but they tend to clog when using over some other mediums.
So, do you have some art to share for Mixed Media Monday? Click here & add a link to your piece. Be sure to check out all the other fun interpretations while you are there.

Well, I have to run. Wishing you a creative week!

oops - nearly forgot - if you're in need of business cards, click here to check out the random drawing I'm hosting for Uprinting.com. 1 lucky winner gets 250 die cut business cards.

Labyrinth Of Love

Labyrinth : a complex system of paths or tunnels in which it is easy to get lost - sounds a bit like Love to me...

Finally got a chance to finish this piece started 3 weeks ago. It was inspired by Mixed Media Monday's prompt Games People Play, though I suppose it also fits this week's prompt - Romance.

By the way, thanks to the good sports who tried to guess what I was up to with the work in progress photos. (I always love to play)

So here's the final. It's an upcycled maze game, measures 5.5" sq x 1" h. Your goal is to get the metal ball from 1 heart to the other without dropping it in the holes.

This one was a lot of fun to make. I disassembled, sanded & stained the original broken toy. Then securely added the mixed media collage & walls.

It is available at ArtSnark.etsy.com - just click on any photo to visit listing. This piece is also customizable. I can add a message +/or hanging hardware to the back. There is also a flexible plastic front piece which can be added or not, your choice. Any questions, just let me know.

By the way today's Mix It Up With Melange prompt is Love Letters. Had it been Love Notes, I 'd have been covered (wink wink). Click on the prompt to see what others are up to or to add your own mixed media love letter.

Musical Monday - Sondre Lerche

Had a few tunes cross my mind & have to go with Sondre Lerche's Just Like Lazenby. I mentioned this song back in early November & still feels like my theme song for 2009.

If you want to catch an interview with this charming fellow from All Things Considered where he explains George Lazenby as muse, among other things - you can find it HERE (pop through & then click the listen now icon. The whole interview is good listen but the Lazenby bit is about 5 minutes in)

So what is your theme song for 2009? Make a post & click the button to leave a linky with Ms. Diane & friends. While you're there, check out what everyone else is listening to today.

By the way, Mixed Media Monday's prompt is cool this week. The challenge is to "use your least favorite color". Bit swamped this week but perhaps I can pull something together. If you have time to play along or just want to see what everyone else is up to, click through & visit the comment section.

Final note today - have you entered my 2 random drawings for this week? Click links below for details & to enter.

Water Music on Mixed Media & Musical Monday

Today the Musical Monday theme is My First Concert

while Mixed Media Monday's prompt is Meaningful Music

When I was 10 we moved from our tiny town to a slightly larger, picturesque city by the sea. Though we only there 2 years, my eyes (& ears) were opened to some life altering experiences. My Mom started taking me to the local "Opera House" where I was introduced to everything from Shakespeare to Gilbert & Sullivan. She also took me to a number of concerts, mostly chamber music & classical soloists. And then 1 day.... it was Respighi's Pines of Rome! That was it - I was sold on both classical music & dreams of visiting Rome.

Trevi Letters

For a while I've wanted to paint again. Just too busy to work on anything big right now. So I've been "sketching" in my ancient photoshop elements. Trevi Letters is my prep for a bigger piece inspired by the 3rd movement from Respighi's Fontane di Roma. Think of it as part of series of love letters to Rome.

If you are curious, I digitally collaged a scrap of printed paper, a Polaroid emulsion transfer made from a close up of the Trevi fountain (yes, I did make it to Rome), and a charcoal drawing of a cellist from years ago. Then I played with some colors & swirls but when I printed it out, it looked like mud (my printer sucks). Rather than toss the print, I had fun adding watercolors, pencils, markers, white paint & gel pens. Unfortunately, I can't seem to capture the shimmer of the gel pens or the white highlights, but you get the basic idea.

If you've got a few minutes, click through the links above to see what other folks have posted today. Also, why not play along & add your own music / art while you are visiting them?

And while you're at it don't forget to visit Maternal Spark's Weekly Inspiration. What is inspiring me this week? I think you can guess what I'm going with.....
